Collection SCOOPs, by Daydreaming Objects, revealed an inner glow in organic wax and arrived in Copenhagen after a stop in Milan<\/h5>\n\n\n\n
A Form That Awaited the Light<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Design studio Daydreaming Objects unveiled the SCOOPs collection, a series of lighting objects made from organic wax, at the DEORON space in Copenhagen during the 3daysofdesign festival. The show ran June 10 to 12 and followed a body of work already exhibited during Milan Design Week 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian designers Ruta Palionyte, a lighting designer, and Ieva Baranauskaite, an architect, both based in the Danish capital, created the pieces around the relationship between organic matter and light. Each object was handmade, a process that produced variations in tone and texture between pieces as a result of wax’s natural behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SCOOPs formed part of a broader studio project called Soft Solids, dedicated to wax compositions developed to diffuse light gently without compromising the structural stability of the pieces. The name SCOOPs referred to the idea of a sample of the different wax compositions, since each piece revealed its own character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Rest to Glow<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Unlit, the objects appeared as solid, understated shapes. Lit, they revealed a warm inner glow that highlighted the material’s natural origin. That transformation sat at the center of the studio’s approach, which sought to bring the experience of light closer to touch, atmosphere and physical presence, according to the designers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stainless steel supports, developed in partnership with local metalworkers, complemented the wax fixtures. The combination joined the precision of industrial manufacturing with the organic surface of the pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing Lost, Everything Recast<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability considerations shaped the project from the selection of raw material. The natural wax used is biodegradable and renewable, which allowed the studio to reuse scraps through remelting, extending the material’s life cycle and reducing waste throughout production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glow That Did Not Go Unnoticed<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Recent awards accompanied the collection’s trajectory. SCOOPs was a finalist for the Seoul Design Award 2025, an international design prize promoted by the Seoul city government and dedicated to solutions addressing challenges such as the climate crisis and social inequality. In the 2025 edition, nearly 1,000 projects from 74 countries were evaluated by a jury of more than 30 international experts, and part of the results came from a public vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany’s Green Product Award 2026 also went to the collection, an international competition dedicated to sustainable products, services and concepts. Active since 2014, the award has drawn entries from dozens of countries. Both honors tracked with the research the studio has pursued around natural materials applied to contemporary lighting design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Milan, the arrival in Copenhagen broadened the collection’s visibility among an international audience focused on independent design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hands Behind the Dream<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Founded through the partnership between Palionyte and Baranauskaite, Daydreaming Objects combines training in lighting design and architecture to create pieces that go beyond practical function. According to the studio, the goal is to tell stories and bring a dreamlike quality to everyday spaces through light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Material curiosity and constant experimentation define the two creators’ practice, the studio said, as they investigate different raw materials and their expressive possibilities in a process aimed at reinterpreting traditional materials from a new perspective. Palionyte and Baranauskaite explore the relationship between light and space by combining their individual skills and sensibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in 1983 in Lithuania, Palionyte works as a light installation artist and lighting designer based in Copenhagen, with a master’s degree in lighting design earned in Edinburgh, Scotland. For her, light’s effect on visual perception in architecture, landscapes, installations and design objects stands as one of the main creative sources behind her work, carried out through international projects in Denmark, the Canary Islands, Estonia, Iceland, Poland and Scotland, among other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baranauskaite, born in 1989, also in Lithuania, is an architect with a master’s degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and a bachelor’s degree from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Her architectural experience spans countries including Denmark, Italy and Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fellow Lithuania natives based in Copenhagen, the two began their partnership during the pandemic, when they found space to experiment together. Out of that collaboration came, in 2022, the duo’s first object, named Daydreamer, a fixture composed of biomorphic elements in dichroic glass and quartz sand that went on to become a finalist that year in the Isola Design Awards’ lighting category. Since then, their joint work has come to include light sculptures, repurposed fixtures and modular wax lighting systems, exhibited in Lithuania and in cities including Copenhagen, Brussels, London and, most recently, during Milan Design Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
