Carolin Kreutzer
Based in Stuttgart, artist investigates perception and relationships through abstract language
Visual artist Carolin Kreutzer, born in Hamburg and based in the Stuttgart region of Germany, has established a distinctive trajectory in the contemporary minimalist art scene in recent years. With solid academic training that includes a master’s degree from the prestigious University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom and professional experience as an art director in corporate design, Kreutzer has developed a visual language that translates emotions and perspectives into abstract compositions of remarkable formal precision.
Her artistic approach is based on the belief that feelings can be visually materialized. “I create minimalist art that invites self-reflection. Emotions and perspectives take shape in abstract forms – becoming visible and tangible,” the artist states. This philosophy permeates works characterized by the use of hard edges that frame fields of homogeneous color, creating a striking interplay between constraint and harmony.

International education and academic rigor
Kreutzer’s academic trajectory reflects the rigor of her artistic production. In 2006, she simultaneously completed her Master of Arts in European Media from the University of Portsmouth and her Diploma in Communication Design from Merz Akademie Hochschule für Gestaltung, Kunst und Medien in Stuttgart, under the guidance of Professor Heidemarie von Wedel.
The University of Portsmouth, founded in 1869 and elevated to university status in 1992, is internationally recognized for its programs in arts, design, and media. Located on the south coast of England, the institution stands out for its practical approach and strong connection with the European creative industry. The European Media program, attended by Kreutzer, is particularly valued for offering a multicultural and interdisciplinary perspective, preparing professionals to work in international contexts.
This dual training – British academic and German technical – provided the artist with theoretical and practical tools that are reflected in her carefully constructed compositions. Before dedicating herself entirely to painting, Kreutzer worked as an art director developing corporate designs, an experience that brought to her artistic production a sharp sense of structure and balance without losing the element of playfulness that characterizes her works.

Stuttgart: cultural hub and creative base
The choice to establish herself in the Stuttgart region is no accident. Capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart is Germany’s sixth-largest city, with a population of approximately 630,000 inhabitants. Recognized as an important industrial hub – home to Mercedes-Benz and Porsche headquarters – the city also stands out for its vibrant cultural scene that includes the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, one of Germany’s leading art museums, and the Württembergischer Kunstverein, a traditional contemporary art association.
Kreutzer maintains a studio in the picturesque countryside outside the city, at Atelier im Boehringer, located in Göppingen, a municipality of about 60,000 inhabitants situated 30 miles east of Stuttgart. This location allows the artist to combine access to Stuttgart’s thriving cultural scene with the tranquility necessary for the creative process.

Rising exhibition trajectory
Kreutzer’s exhibition career has gained significant momentum in recent years. In 2023, she participated in the group show “Zwischen Berührung, Nähe und Distanz” (Between Touch, Proximity and Distance) at the Württembergischer Kunstverein in Stuttgart, followed by the exhibition “Out of the Blue” at Im Boehringer space in Göppingen.
The year 2024 marked an important consolidation with exhibitions at Nuo Gallery in Munich and a solo show at Privatklinik in Göppingen. But 2025 represents the pinnacle of her trajectory to date. In April, she presented the solo exhibition “About Authenticity” at Im Boehringer. In August, she participated in the prestigious group exhibition “200 Jahre Gegenwart” (200 Years of Present) at the Württembergischer Kunstverein. September brought an artist talk and exhibition at Stefanie Ebert Interior in Mannheim. The year culminates in December with the solo show “Unfolding” at Escat Gallery in Barcelona, her first exhibition in Spain.

Previously, in 2006 and 2007, Kreutzer had already participated in photography exhibitions, including “Uniformierte Individualität” (Uniformed Individuality) as part of Photokina in Esslingen and Fotosommer Stuttgart, as well as the show “Blaupause” at the 7th International Photo Triennial Esslingen in Cologne.
Work that dialogues with contemporaneity
Kreutzer’s work explores universal themes such as relationships and perception, investigating the delicate balance between shared values and individual freedom. Her minimalist technique distills visual elements to their essence, offering viewers a contemplative experience that invites self-reflection.
